This was my second time playing this course, if I had attempted to rank it after my first round, it would not have been a glowing review, but that's not the courses fault, it was mine. The round that I played this last Sunday was a better experience. I thought that the course played very fairly, you put it in the fairway and the possibilities are endless, except for that damned wind. The club house has wonderful food, the mini chicken tacos are awesome, not to mention they carry a great variety of micro brewed beer, all good by me.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Ranks with the best in this price level, Expensive and worth it

This was our second trip to the Highlands of Elgin this year, if I had filled out this survey after my first round it would not have gotten such a high rank from me. Which would not be fair as I was the one who stunk, not the golf course. Some of the holes reminded me of a few courses that I have played in Northern Michigan and in South Carolina, the big difference is it is in my proverbial back yard, yes! Less than an hours drive, which for me on a Sunday isn't all bad. I am already looking forward to our playing there again next year.

Really enjoy unique layout of this course. No homes, use of quarry in golf course layout. Conditioning and variey of holes. Nice elevation changes as well. Course has increased the greens fees this year 2012. New GPS system in the carts. Elgin has two great public courses with Highlands of Elgin and Bowes Creek.

Would travel: 20-30 Miles, Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area

Great design now that the course consists entirely of new holes. Fair but challenging with many memorable holes and shots. There are no homes and the course is actually very forgiving from most tee boxes. Approach shots are much more challenging, as you'll want to be on the correct section/level of the green. The greens also do not typically hold shots unless they are well struck. There are 4 holes that play around a quarry that are very spectacular. The routing does a good job of incorporating the quarry and some of the best terrain on both the front 9 as well as the back. Conditioning is not the best, especially on the 10 new holes. All of the greens had tons of scars from ball marks. The fairways also had a tremendous amount of divots. Clearly word is out on how great this design is and the course is experiencing a lot of play. The older holes are much more lush and pristine, whereas the 10 new holes are very rough around the edges. If it ever grows in they could charge another $10-$15.
